The Peace & Social Concerns Committee has a threefold purpose:

  1. To work on issues which are pressing and relevant to the social concerns of the Meeting;
  2. To be a resource for the Meeting to provide people power on specific issues;
  3. To provide information on peace and social concern issues.

The minutes of the committee back several years are available.

The committee recommends an individual as Mount Toby liaison to Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), who is confirmed by the meeting as a whole. For current positions, see the roster. (Password required)

The committee sends notices over the Peace and Social Concerns email listserve to notify those interested in promoting pending legislation and in supporting local Peace and Social Concerns events .It may suggest actions for the Meeting as a whole, or ask for moral or other support for actions of conscience by Meeting members.

The committee has responsibility for the organizations in a portion of the meeting’s budget – discerning whether they should be recommended for financial support, and if so arranging presentations in the meeting for business and other ways to inform meeting members about them. The process for communicating about these organizations is described here.

Annual reports and other information about P&SC are on the committee’s external web page, though the page may not be quite up to date.  An archive of the committee’s minutes back to 2005 is maintained though a password is required to access minutes through 2012. Since 2013, they are publicly available.

The committee’s meetings are open to all, and attendance by all Friends is encouraged.  Currently these meetings are at 7pm on the fourth Thursday of each month except August.
